About Tchoukball

An introduction to the explosive world of Tchoukball

Tchoukball was invented by eminent Swiss biologist Dr. Herman Brandt. He spent his life studying all types of sport and wrote many books as well as an award winning paper on the subject.

It was during these studies that Dr Brandt noticed that many sport produced shocking injuries, many of them stopping even the toughest of athletes from participating.

His goal was to create the "perfect team game" which reduced the amount of injuries suffered in other sports. The result of Dr Brandt's hard work is the game we have come to know as TCHOUKBALL. A game which was designed, analysed and perfected before being unleashed onto the public. This means that Tchoukball is still played to the same non contact, non aggressive, sporting ethos layed down so many years ago.

So why the weird name? Apparently the name comes from the 'tchouk' sound of the ball rebounding from a tchoukball frame.

Like most sports, Tchoukball started from humble beginnings and with so many sports available in the world it has taken time to grow. However, Tchoukball is now played in 44 countries and counting including Brazil, Canada, America and China. After a huge investment Tchoukball is now the 3rd most popular sport in Taiwan with over 100 teams participating in their national league. Switzerland and Great Britain lead the way in Europe with Italy developing the game to an extremely fast rate holding beach tournaments annually.

It's Broadland Tchoukball Club's goal to develop the game further within East Anglia. We along with the other teams within Great Britain aim to make Tchoukball available to everyone.

Quick Guide

  • Tchoukball is a non-contact sport.
  • Tchoukball is played on a simple court with only a half way line and 2 'D' shaped markings.
  • Players are not allowed to enter the 'D' area whilst they have possession of the ball.
  • At each end of the court is a frame, strung across the frame with elastic is a net.
  • Teams can score points at both ends of the court!
  • Points are scored by jumping into the air and throwing the ball against the netted part of the Tchoukball frame in such a way that the ball lands outside the 'D' again.
  • Whilst 'shooting' the player must not jump from inside or land inside the 'D' whilst still in possession of the ball.
  • Whilst shooting, it is the oppositions job to stop the ball from touching the ground outside the 'D' after the ball has been shot at the net.
  • Each team has 3 passes of the ball.
  • Players can only take 3 steps whilst in possession of the ball.
  • Players only have 3 seconds to either pass or shoot the ball.
  • If the ball touches the ground or a player/team makes any other offense then the opposition gains possession.
